Clean Milk

BACKGROUND

The concern about milk quality in India and the ability to fight massive adulteration require innovative tools to be implemented in the traditional collection system. The rising consumption and the growing awareness of nutrition quality require higher quantities and a better quality of milk. The major challenge is maintaining the original quality of raw milk, required for production of nutritious dairy products with longer shelf life.

Since 2013, Dr. Aravot, a specialist in the field of dairy production and innovation leads a team exploring the challenges in India Dairy sector and scouting for innovative affordable solutions to cater to its need.

On the current collection process, milk passes through the following chain:

Farmer’s Hands -> Farmer’s Bucket -> Public Collection Bucket in MCC -> Chiller at BMC -> Dairy Production Facility

Our lab results prove that milk gets contaminated at every stage of the process.

CLEAN MONITORED MILK COLLECTION PROCESS

We created innovative add-ons designed to suit the working conditions in rural India, applicable to the limitations of the current milk collection process. Our process is based on packaging the milk in a sterile environment at the milking point at the farmer, pasteurizing the milk in the MCC, and keeping the milk in a sterile environment for the rest of the supply chain. Each portion of milk is being marked and monitored throughout the entire process, enabling the possibility to track down specific source of possible adulteration and contaminations.

Our team concluded successful pilot projects, focusing on a modified process that was tested in two Indian villages. The successful process proved our capability to maintain high quality of raw milk using the proposed procedure of early pasteurization made using our proprietary sterile packaging materials.
